Melissa officinalis

copyright Coastal Gardening Society 2011
Otherwise known as lemon balm. My mother gave me some but neglected to tell me that it's invasive. I have lemon balm growing between my paving slabs now and even found some growing out of the base of a wall. It grows quite tall and although it smells nice, it's not that useful compared to the space it wants. I suggest a container and chopping it to the ground in autumn to avoid frost damage. One book says it likes moist shade but mine happily monsters away facing West with quite a lot of sun.
